Having burst onto the scene with his critically acclaimed ‘I Know It’s A Good Thing’
EP back in 2014, Shamir quickly found his place in the hearts of music lovers around
the world – including those at the respected music house of XL Recordings who
signed the young musician and went onto release his debut album ‘Ratchet’,
propelling Shamir even further around the world as his fun-filled live show and catchy
personality allowed him to win punters and critics alike over. It was this response,
which resulted in Shamir recently making his infectiously fun network television debut
on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
‘Shamir elaborates on the gutsy melodies of those early demos
and singles and makes good on the hype’ – Pitchfork (Best New
Music)
‘An album of movement that reaches toward the sublime’ – Boston
Globe
‘Delivering a healthy dose of real talk, set to clean cuts of vintage
Chicago house grooves’ – Rolling Stone
As end of year lists begin to roll in, the quality of Shamir’s art has once again been
noted as his singles have been featured in a number of respected ‘best of 2015’ lists
including Stereogum and Spin Magazine.
‘Shamir is one of the breakout acts of 2015, and for good reason.
Ratchet is one of the most self-assured, immediate debuts we’ve
seen this year’ – Stereogum (rating Ratchet as the top 25 albums of
2015)
‘…a kettle-voiced 21-year-old’s buoyant anti-gaslighting anthem (“You had
me blame myself / Question my mental health”) deservingly took hold. The
other kind of bro dance music, as in the bigger little bro we all wish we had.’ –
Spin Magazine (naming ‘Call It Off’ in the top 20 singles of 2015)
